DERBY –– Community National Bank (CNB) recently announced the recent collection for Tatum’s Totes was a huge success, with a special thank you to CNB’s Jennifer Daigle for initiating the campaign.

The bank collected enough items to fill the back of a Cargo van and financial donations totaling $3,528.25.

“Thank you to all who dropped off items at our offices and to all who gave financial support,” the bank said in a statement. “Your generous donations will help children entering the foster care system feel supported and loved.

Tatum’s Totes is a nonprofit organization that was started in 2015 by Alex and Elizabeth Grimes to honor their son Tatum who died of SIDS at five months old. Through their grief, the couple found foster care and learned that many children entering the system came into their new homes carrying very few items in a plastic bag.

Tatum’s Totes was created to supply children entering foster care with a backpack filled with comforting items that they can keep and call their own.

To help with distribution, CNB reached out to Green Mountain United Way (GMUW). GMUW has adopted a Tatum’s Totes program to serve children entering foster care in the Barre, Newport, and St. Johnsbury Department for Children and Families districts.

On Tuesday, April 15, several CNB employees delivered the van full of items to GMUW. Each year GMUW provides hundreds of backpacks to children who are transitioning into foster care.

The bank also extended great appreciation to Green Mountain United Way for helping distribute the items collected for Tatum’s Totes as well as for the all the ways they help improve the quality of life for many in our communities.
