LOUISVILLE — State Police responded to a report of a two-car collision with injuries on State Highway 37 at approximately 9:58 p.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, troopers found a red 2013 Buick and a white 2006 Ford pickup truck off the roadway in a ditch.

The investigation revealed that the driver of the Buick was identified as Travis M. Smutz, 40, from Massena.

The driver of the Ford was Nicholas Harold Francis Westurn, 20, also from Massena, who had a passenger, Caden Jay William Lashomb, 20, from Massena.

The collision occurred when Westurn, traveling north on Willard Road, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with State Highway 37, striking Smutz’s vehicle.

Both vehicles then exited the roadway and went onto the north shoulder, where Westurn’s vehicle collided with an electrical pole, causing it to overturn.

Smutz, Westurn, and Lashomb were all transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for medical treatment.

Westurn and Lashomb were subsequently transferred to Upstate Medical Center, where they are currently listed in stable condition.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Louisville Fire Department, Massena Rescue, and Seaway Valley Ambulance.

This is an ongoing investigation.
