BRUTUS — A house fire early Friday morning left two people injured and destroyed a home in the Town of Brutus, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Brian Schenck reported that deputies responded to 103 Briarwood Drive at 6:41 a.m. on April 18 after receiving reports of a structure fire.
Two occupants were inside the residence when the fire broke out but managed to escape with non-life threatening injuries.
Both individuals were transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment.
The structure appears to be a total loss, according to officials.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and the Auburn Fire Department’s Fire Investigations Unit, working in coordination with New York State Fire Investigators and K9 units.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Weedsport Fire Department, Jordan Fire Department, Sennett Fire Department, Elbridge Fire Department, Cayuga County Emergency Service Office, Jordan Ambulance, Auburn City Ambulance, Cayuga County 911, and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.
