EAST FISHKILL — Two local residents were arrested Thursday after allegedly breaking into a home on Railroad Avenue and later assaulting one of the homeowners, police said.

The East Fishkill Police Department responded to a reported burglary in progress at approximately 7:44 p.m. on April 17.

Officers determined that two suspects had unlawfully entered a residence and stolen various items of property.

As the suspects fled the scene, the female suspect later encountered and assaulted one of the homeowners at a separate nearby location, according to police.

The homeowner declined medical attention at the scene.

After several hours of investigation, East Fishkill Police Officers and Detective Division located and apprehended both suspects, identified as East Fishkill residents Casey L. Cassell and Gregory W. Chiacchia.

Both suspects were arraigned at the East Fishkill Justice Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail by Judge Romig on multiple charges including Burglary 2nd, Conspiracy 4th, Grand Larceny 4th, and other related offenses.

Police said stolen items that had been discarded by the suspects were later located by an East Fishkill K9 during an article search.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are withholding further details to protect the integrity of future court proceedings and the safety of the victim.
