WOODHULL — Deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 30-year-old Elmira man on multiple felony charges after he allegedly stole a vehicle and crashed it while impaired with a child passenger on April 17.
Jonah A. Alington-Howard of Main Street, Elmira, was taken into custody following reports of a possibly impaired driver in a stolen vehicle in Woodhull.
Sheriff Jim Allard reports that Alington-Howard allegedly stole the vehicle and operated it while impaired due to drug use with a child under the age of fifteen as a passenger.
Authorities say Alington-Howard crashed the vehicle after leaving the roadway.
Deputies also allege that Alington-Howard possessed a quantity of suspected cocaine at the time of his arrest.
The child passenger was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
Alington-Howard faces charges including Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, both class D felonies, along with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a class E felony.
Additional charges include Operating a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Drugs, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.
Alington-Howard is awaiting arraignment in the Centralized Arraignment Court.
