BERLIN — A vehicle caught fire after crashing on Interstate 89 Thursday afternoon, causing traffic delays and minor injuries to the occupants.

Vermont State Police responded to a vehicle fire on Interstate 89 South at mile marker 46.8 at 4:20 p.m.

Troopers arrived to find a 2024 Subaru Outback fully engulfed in flames.

The driver, Alyssa Presley, 26, of South Burlington, and her passenger had safely exited the vehicle before police arrived.

Investigation revealed that Presley was driving southbound when another vehicle veered into her lane, causing her to leave the roadway and strike a guardrail.

The impact apparently triggered a fire that ultimately destroyed the Subaru.

Both Presley and her passenger initially declined medical attention at the scene but later requested transportation to Central Vermont Medical Center for evaluation of minor injuries.

The Berlin Fire Department responded to extinguish the vehicle fire while traffic was reduced to a single lane.

The crash investigation remains ongoing, according to state police.
