BOSTON — A 15-year-old male was arrested with a loaded “ghost gun” following an investigation by the Youth Violence Strike Force in Roxbury on Wednesday, April 16.
Members of the Boston Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested the teen on firearm-related charges after a subject stop near 95 Saint Alphonsus Street.
Officers and Troopers were conducting an intelligence-based directed patrol near Albert Street when the suspect approached them and asked for directions to Ruggles MBTA Station.
After receiving directions, officers observed the suspect disregard them and instead head toward Southwest Corridor Park and Prentiss Street, away from the station.
Officers monitored the suspect from their cruisers as he appeared to observe them while unaware that an additional officer was also watching his movements.
Based on his unusual behavior, officers began following him as he walked through several streets before entering Saint Alphonsus Street.
Officers noted the suspect clutching the front of his waistband and increasing his pace when he noticed law enforcement again.
When a Trooper exited his cruiser to speak with the suspect, the teen fled on foot while continuing to hold his waistband.
During the pursuit, officers observed the suspect draw a white firearm from his waistband before complying with verbal commands and placing the weapon on top of a nearby recycling barrel.
Detectives recovered a 9mm “ghost gun” equipped with a threaded barrel, loaded with one round in the chamber and a magazine containing sixteen additional live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession of a large capacity feeding device.
The teen is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
