ESSEX — A 51-year-old St. Albans man was arrested Thursday after allegedly robbing the M&T Bank on Sunderland Way, according to Essex Police.
Travis Laplant was taken into custody at an apartment on Susie Wilson Road at 2:41 p.m., approximately 90 minutes after the robbery occurred.
Police said Laplant, wearing a red jacket and glasses, entered the bank at approximately 1:06 p.m. and used a note to demand money.
Bank employees provided an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect.
No weapon was displayed during the incident, and no employees were physically injured.
Essex Police quickly identified Laplant from surveillance photographs with assistance from Winooski Police Department.
Authorities said Laplant is also suspected in a bank robbery that occurred in Winooski on April 9.
K9 units from Milton Police and Barre Town Police, who were training in the area, assisted with tracking the suspect to an apartment at Susan’s Place on Susie Wilson Road.
After negotiations, Laplant surrendered without incident and was charged with grand larceny.
Police executed a search warrant at the apartment and collected evidence related to both bank robberies.
Laplant was transported to the UVM Medical Center for treatment of an unrelated health issue.
He is being held on $10,000 bail for the grand larceny charge and without bail on a state parole board arrest warrant.
