Man arrested for domestic assault in St. Johnsbury

ST. JOHNSBURY — Vermont State Police arrested a 23-year-old transient man Thursday morning following reports of domestic assault and animal cruelty at a residence on Old Center Road.

Rielly Compo was taken into custody at approximately 9:46 a.m. on April 17 after troopers received notification of two separate assaults that allegedly occurred on April 16 and 17.

According to authorities, Compo assaulted a household member and a family pet, made criminal threats, and destroyed personal property belonging to others.

Troopers located Compo at the St. Johnsbury Park & Ride near the intersection of US-2 and US-2b shortly after beginning their search.

Compo faces multiple charges including two counts of domestic assault, unlawful mischief, criminal threatening, and cruelty to animals.

Following his arrest, Compo was transported to the Vermont State Police St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing before being taken to Caledonia County Superior Court.

Court officials arraigned Compo and released him on conditions.

The identity of the domestic violence victim was not disclosed by authorities in accordance with Vermont State Police policy.
