NEWPORT — A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges stemming from incidents in Orleans County.
Ivan Carmona, who witnesses said was living in a trailer on Adam Lane in Brownington at the time of the incidents, changed his plea to guilty on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and negligent driving while eluding a law enforcement officer.
As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed charges of kidnapping and excessive speed.
According to court documents, Carmona, also known as “Flacka” or “Flocco,” was involved in a series of incidents beginning in September 2019. Vermont State Police Trooper Nathan Handy reported that Carmona pointed a handgun at a man who was checking on his elderly father.
In a separate case, Trooper Daniel Lynch stated that Carmona forced a woman into a truck at gunpoint, drove her to a field in Brownington, and threatened her while demanding money. The victim reported being too frightened to leave the vehicle for 13 hours.
Court records show Carmona later led police on a high-speed chase through multiple towns after officers responded to the woman’s home when she reported Carmona had returned.
In November, Border Patrol Agent Matthew Palma encountered Carmona on Bear Mountain Road in Troy.
When Palma pursued him on foot, Carmona pointed a Glock 19 handgun at the agent before throwing the weapon into the woods and attempting to flee, according to an affidavit from Trooper Brian Connor.
