CICERO — A massive fire tore through a two-story apartment building Tuesday, sending three residents to the hospital for smoke inhalation and prompting a large emergency response.

The blaze at Cicero Estates Apartments, located at 8372/8374 Pardee Road, was reported to the Onondaga County 911 Center at 2:07 p.m.

Cicero Fire Department responded alongside mutual aid units from Brewerton, East Syracuse, Mattydale and South Bay.

While en route, fire officials requested additional engine and truck support after Cicero Police Department arrived on scene reporting heavy fire coming from the building.

Fire Command arrived at 2:11 p.m. and immediately transmitted a Signal 99, indicating a working fire with heavy flames visible from the roof.

At least three occupants suffered smoke inhalation as the structure was being evacuated, prompting officials to request at least four ambulances to the scene.

Fire officials also requested verification that at least three aerial trucks were assigned to the alarm.

Firefighters conducted exterior operations on the burning building while performing interior operations in an adjacent exposure building to prevent the fire’s spread.
