CONCORD — A Sheffield man escaped injury after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing into a power pole early Thursday morning, according to Vermont State Police.
The crash occurred around 5:08 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Shadow Lake Road.
Leo Martin, 20, was driving a 2002 Toyota Tacoma when he drifted off the roadway, state police said.
Martin’s vehicle struck two concrete mailboxes and a Green Mountain Power pole before flipping onto its roof and coming to rest approximately 30 yards from the initial impact site.
Troopers responding to the scene found scattered electrical wires on the roadway and the destroyed power pole.
Martin, who was not wearing a seat belt, had to be extricated from the overturned vehicle but was uninjured in the crash.
The Toyota Tacoma was totaled in the incident.
Concord Fire Department, CALEX Ambulance Crew, Green Mountain Power, and Trahan Towing & Recovery assisted state police at the scene.
