SOUTH BURLINGTON — A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 southbound in South Burlington left two drivers hospitalized with injuries Friday evening, according to Vermont State Police.
The crash occurred at about 6:24 p.m. when Jamie Faas, 50, of Colchester, crossed from the northbound lanes through the median and into southbound traffic.
Faas’s 2020 Honda Ridgeline, traveling at approximately 70 mph, collided head-on with a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Gregory Shover, 56, of Shelburne.
Shover was traveling in the left-hand lane near Exit 14 at about 50 mph when the collision occurred in a 55 mph zone.
Both vehicles spun into the southbound breakdown lane following impact, where medical professionals commuting to UVM stopped to provide assistance until emergency personnel arrived.
The drivers were transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington for treatment.
Faas suffered serious, life-threatening injuries while Shover sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
State police ruled out impairment as a cause of the crash, which remains under investigation.
South Burlington Fire Department and South Burlington EMS assisted state police at the scene.
