Oxford police confront teens with replica gun

1 min read

OXFORD — Oxford police officers responded to a disturbance call involving three teenage males reportedly destroying street signs this past week.

As officers approached the scene, one of the teens, a 15-year-old, quickly walked to a nearby wooded area and threw what appeared to be a gun into the woods.

Officers later recovered the item, which was determined to be a replica firearm that closely resembled an actual weapon.

The other two individuals involved were both 14 years old.

Police were able to resolve the situation without injuries to any of the parties involved.

The responding officers, who were working the 3 to 11 p.m. shift, were commended by the department for their professional handling of the potentially dangerous situation.

Authorities noted that the incident could have had serious consequences had the replica gun been mistaken for a real firearm during the confrontation.
