HOMER — A 54-year-old Cortland man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that occurred on Hudson Street last week, police said Wednesday.
Joseph Spruill of Cortland is facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, and criminal use of a firearm in the first degree, according to the Homer Police Department.
The shooting took place on April 9 at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Hudson Street in the Village of Homer.
An arrest warrant was issued for Spruill on April 14 by Cortland County Judge Alexander.
Authorities believe Spruill fled to the New York City area after the shooting, where he was last known to be located.
Police said the shooting was not random, as the investigation revealed the victim and suspect are known to each other.
The Homer Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police (Troop C, Troop NYC), the New York State Intelligence Center, the Southern Tier Crime Analysis Center, and the New York City Police Department.
