CHICOPEE — Officers arrested a Springfield man Tuesday after he allegedly crashed a four-wheeler into a police cruiser and fled on foot.
Daniel Walker, 20, was taken into custody following a brief pursuit that ended in a wooded area near Fuller Road and Sheridan Street.
Police were dispatched to the intersection at approximately 6:44 p.m. to assist Springfield police in locating a suspect from an armed robbery.
A detective spotted a four-wheeler stopped at a red light and activated emergency blue lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle when the light turned green.
According to police, the operator immediately manipulated the throttle, causing the vehicle to hit the cruiser before jumping off and running from the scene.
Walker allegedly jumped over a guardrail into a heavily wooded area before officers apprehended him.
He faces multiple charges including snow/recreational vehicle public way violation, negligent/reckless operation, refusing to stop for police, resisting arrest, and operating an unregistered recreational vehicle.
