UTICA — Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert for shots fired on the 1500 block of Elm Street at approximately 8:00 p.m. on March 19.
Upon arrival, officers located a spent .40 caliber shell casing in front of a residence and spoke with several individuals in the area.
Police learned that a dispute had occurred outside and one person had fired a round before fleeing into the residence.
Parole officers responded due to the supervision status of a resident.
A search of the premises resulted in the discovery of a loaded .380 handgun in a common area.
No charges related to the recovered weapon have been filed as of Thursday.
The shots fired investigation was assigned to an investigator with the GIVE Unit.
Based on evidence and information gathered, police developed a suspect.
On April 14, a 17-year-old male suspect was taken into custody with assistance from the Oneida County Probation Department.
The suspect was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a firearm.
His identity is not being released due to his age.
