Holyoke police arrest child abuse suspect during Maple Street incident

HOLYOKE — Holyoke police arrested a local man suspected of child abuse Wednesday night after responding to an incident on Maple Street.

At about 10:00 p.m. April 2, Officers Justo Pagan and William LeBrun were assisting other officers with a loose manhole cover on Maple Street.

While on scene, officers identified a vehicle registered to Nicholas Rodriguez, 26, who had outstanding arrest warrants issued by Hampshire Superior Court.

Holyoke police detectives had relayed information about Rodriguez’s possible location earlier in the evening.

Officers Pagan and LeBrun then responded to an apartment at 446 Maple Street.
Rodriguez was located at the address and taken into custody.

He faces charges of assault and battery on a child with substantial injury, permitting substantial injury to a child, assault and battery on a child with injury, and permitting injury to a child.

Rodriguez is being held pending arraignment.
