BOSTON — A Dorchester man was arrested Monday night after shots were fired during an incident in the Dorchester neighborhood, according to the Boston Police Department.

Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a report of a fight near 9 Capen Place at approximately 7:58 p.m. on April 14.

Police said the suspect, later identified as Omar Stephenson, 38, of Dorchester, allegedly attempted to fight two individuals before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

While searching for the suspect, officers received information from Boston Police Operations about a separate call reporting shots fired at 33 Capen Street.

Police were advised that the suspect was seen inside a vehicle and fired a shot before leaving the area.

Responding officers observed a vehicle matching the suspect’s description turning onto Norfolk Street and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Stanton Street using marked cruisers’ emergency lights and sirens.

Officers ordered Stephenson to exit the vehicle and conducted a pat frisk, subsequently recovering a Smith & Wesson revolver from inside the vehicle.

The recovered firearm contained four rounds in the chamber and one spent shell casing, police said.

Stephenson was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition without an FID card, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
