AVON — A local man was arrested after allegedly drawing a swastika on a Tesla parked at a West Avon Road location, according to police.

On March 26 at 8:08 p.m., Avon Police responded to a complaint about vandalism to a white Tesla Model Y.

The vehicle owners told officers that while they were dining at a restaurant at 15 West Avon Road, someone used a black permanent marker to draw a swastika on the driver’s side door of their car.

Security footage from the Tesla captured a male suspect wearing a black hooded sweatshirt approaching the vehicle, looking around, and drawing the symbol before leaving the area in a white sedan.

Police identified the suspect as Steven Lowell Weinberger, 40, of 75 Avonwood Road, Avon.

During questioning, Weinberger admitted to drawing the swastika, telling officers he was upset with the current political climate in the country and did not know who owned the Tesla.

Avon Police obtained an arrest warrant for Weinberger, charging him with second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace.

Weinberger was released on a $25,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Hartford Community Court on April 30.
