SMYRNA — A 17-year-old male from Hamilton was killed Saturday when a vehicle rolled over and struck a utility pole on County Road 14 in the town of Smyrna.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene after the county’s 911 center received a call about the single-vehicle accident on April 12.
Deputies found that five of the vehicle’s occupants had managed to escape, but the Hamilton teen was still trapped inside.
The entrapped teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four other occupants were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division, Detectives Division and Accident Reconstruction Team responded to investigate the crash.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
