UNADILLA — A 32-year-old Unadilla man was arrested Monday after allegedly shooting a person who was helping a friend move out of a residence, according to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office.

Ryley W. Decker faces multiple felony charges including second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The incident began when deputies and New York State Police responded to the Wells Bridge Fire Department for a report of a vehicle passenger suffering from a gunshot wound.

Investigators determined the victim was attempting to help an uninvolved friend move out of a residence in the Town of Unadilla when Decker allegedly intentionally discharged a shotgun at the victim.

The victim was transported by a friend to the Wells Bridge Fire Department, where a citizen called 911 at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Deputies provided medical assistance until emergency medical services arrived.

The victim was airlifted by LifeNet to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for treatment.

Decker was later located at his place of employment and taken into custody by New York State Police without incident.

A search warrant executed at Decker’s residence revealed additional evidence related to the crime, authorities said.

The Otsego County District Attorney’s Office recommended bail at $20,000 cash, $20,000 credit card, or $200,000 surety bond.

Decker was processed and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment, where an order of protection will be issued for the victim.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
