KENNEBUNK — A residential fire at 7 Wonderbrook Drive on Saturday, April 12, was determined to be accidental after an investigation by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The Kennebunk Fire Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 7 a.m. reporting the fire at Unit 7.
According to fire officials, a neighbor who called 911 was unable to gain entry to the residence.
Upon arrival, firefighters extinguished the blaze within three minutes and rescued the occupant from a second-story bedroom.
The victim was transported to York Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and was later released.
The Fire Marshal’s Office investigation revealed that the homeowner had placed hot ashes from her fireplace into a plastic bucket the previous day and positioned it on the deck near the door, which led to the ignition of the fire.
