NEWBURY — A New Hampshire man suffered minor injuries after falling asleep while driving on US Route 5 late Sunday night.
Kevin Goldsack, 53, of Woodsville, was traveling north on US Route 5 around 11:30 p.m. when he dozed off behind the wheel, according to Vermont State Police from the Saint Johnsbury Barracks.
Goldsack’s 2018 Toyota Tacoma crossed the centerline into the southbound lane before striking a telephone pole.
The vehicle then hit a tree and came to rest on its driver’s side in the southbound lane near 3691 US Route 5, close to Oxbow Road.
Goldsack managed to free himself from the vehicle, which was totaled in the crash.
He declined transportation to a hospital despite sustaining minor injuries.
Troopers cited Goldsack for operating without liability insurance, failing to register his vehicle, and operating without a license.
Newbury Fire Department, Woodsville Ambulance Service, and Trahan Towing assisted state police at the scene.
