BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a 37-year-old Dorchester man on firearm charges following a traffic stop Sunday afternoon.

At about 4:32 p.m. on April 13, officers assigned to District C-11 observed a vehicle exit a plaza near 500 Geneva Avenue and brake suddenly to avoid hitting a pedestrian.

Officers noted the vehicle was swerving and nearly struck another vehicle entering the plaza.

Police activated emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle reportedly refused to stop until reaching the area of Geneva Avenue and Josephine Street.

Officers ordered the driver, identified as Celso Depina of Dorchester, out of the vehicle.

During a subsequent search, police recovered a Sig Sauer P365 firearm with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in the magazine.

Depina was arrested and faces multiple charges including carrying a firearm without a license (third offense), possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license (subsequent offense), and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
