DEERPARK — A woman fatally shot by New York State Police troopers during a domestic dispute in Deerpark has been identified as Nancy Loftus, 69, of Port Jervis, N.Y.
A pellet gun was recovered from the scene, according to an update released by authorities at 5:05 p.m. Saturday.
Troopers from the New York State Police Greenville barracks responded to a reported domestic incident involving a knife at a residence on Forrest Drive in the town of Deerpark at approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Upon arrival, troopers found a male victim on the front porch who reported that Loftus was armed with a knife and a firearm.
Shortly after, Loftus exited the residence and pointed what appeared to be a black handgun at responding troopers.
Two troopers discharged their duty weapons, striking Loftus.
The troopers immediately rendered medical aid and requested EMS.
Loftus was transported to Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The male victim, who told police Loftus had stabbed him in the stomach during the dispute, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated by EMS at the scene.
No troopers were injured during the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
