Woman faces multiple charges after giving false identity in St. Johnsbury

ST. JOHNSBURY — A transient woman is facing multiple charges, including DUI and identity theft, after allegedly providing false information to law enforcement during a traffic stop.

Vera Langmaid, 44, was taken into custody on April 12 after state police discovered she had given a family member’s name during an initial traffic stop the previous night.

According to authorities, troopers initially stopped a vehicle at 10:53 p.m. on April 11 after witnessing a motor vehicle infraction in St. Johnsbury.

During that stop, the driver identified herself as Mary Briggs, 43, and was arrested for DUI after troopers observed signs of impairment.

State police later received information that the woman had provided a false identity and was actually Langmaid.

Langmaid now faces charges of DUI-Drugs, identity theft, operating without a license, providing false information to law enforcement, obstruction of justice, and impeding public officers.

She was processed at the State Police Barracks in St. Johnsbury and issued a citation to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court – Criminal Division on June 2 at 8:30 a.m.
