NORTH ADAMS — The North Adams Police Department has issued a warning about a telephone scam targeting local residents.
Several community members have reported receiving calls from individuals falsely claiming to represent the North Adams Police Department and soliciting monetary donations.
Interim-Chief Mark Bailey confirmed that neither the City of North Adams, the police department, nor the union representing NAPD officers is currently conducting any fundraising campaigns.
Authorities are advising residents who receive such calls to refrain from making donations and to avoid sharing any personal information with the callers.
Anyone who has already made a donation to these scammers is encouraged to contact NAPD Dispatch at 413-664-4944 x 1 to speak with an officer and file an incident report.
The police department is actively monitoring the situation as reports of the scam continue to come in.
