WATERVILLE — A Waterville man was arrested and charged with arson after allegedly setting fire to debris near a dumpster early Thursday morning.

Jason Woods, 47, was found by Waterville Fire/Rescue personnel who were responding to an unrelated medical call around 2:30 a.m. on April 10.

Firefighters observed a fire next to a dumpster and building in the area of 44 College Avenue and alerted authorities.

When Waterville Police and Fire Departments arrived at the scene, they discovered Woods lying on the ground surrounded by burning debris.

Police officers pulled the burning materials away from Woods to prevent him from being injured.

The dumpster sustained minor damage in the incident.

Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set.

Woods was taken to the Kennebec County Jail and charged with arson.
