SHREWSBURY — Two men were arrested after police discovered 82 grams of fentanyl during a traffic stop at a local Burger King.
Officers Mattero and Bourette pulled over a black Chevy Silverado pickup truck at 7:28 p.m. March 24 after discovering the vehicle had license plates registered to a different vehicle.
The traffic stop occurred in the parking lot of the Burger King at the corner of North Quinsigamond Avenue and Boston Turnpike.
During the investigation, officers determined the driver did not have a license and the passenger had an outstanding warrant.
While arresting the passenger, Jerry Diaz, 32, of Orlando, Florida, officers discovered a bag in his sweatshirt pocket containing 82 grams of fentanyl.
A search of the vehicle revealed 3 grams of cocaine, 32 buprenorphine pills, a small amount of fentanyl and one .32 caliber bullet.
Diaz was arrested on a warrant from Fitchburg District Court and charged with trafficking a Class A substance, fentanyl.
The driver, Josmel Mercedes, 34, of Fitchburg, was charged with possession of a Class A substance, possession of a Class B substance, possession of ammunition without an FID card, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, attaching plates to a motor vehicle, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
