PORTSMOUTH — A 56-year-old Harrisville man was arrested at his home following an investigation into alleged inappropriate contact with a minor.

Michael Collins was taken into custody at approximately 6:33 a.m. on April 7 by authorities after the Portsmouth Police Detective Division investigated reports of indecent solicitation of a juvenile.

Investigators discovered evidence suggesting Collins had been soliciting inappropriate contact with a 14-year-old Portsmouth resident.

Detectives collected several items of evidentiary value during their investigation, including online communications between Collins and the juvenile.

The Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force executed an arrest warrant and apprehended Collins without incident before transporting him to the Portsmouth Police Department for processing.

Collins was arraigned in the 2nd Division District Court on the charge of Indecent Solicitation of a Minor.

He was released on $5,000 personal recognizance with conditions prohibiting contact with minors and barring his use of the internet, smartphones, or computers.
