GROTON — A custodian at Marine Science Magnet High School was arrested Tuesday following a month-long investigation into allegations he distributed cannabis and alcohol to students, police said.
Thomas I. Ortiz, 37, of New London, faces three counts of risk of injury to/impairing the morals of a minor, three counts of illegal dispensing of cannabis or cannabis product, and one count of sale or delivery of alcohol to a minor.
The City of Groton Police Department began investigating Ortiz in early March after receiving reports about illicit substance distribution at the school located on Shennecossett Road.
School administrators immediately placed Ortiz on administrative leave and banned him from school grounds after receiving the initial disclosure, according to police.
Investigators secured an arrest warrant through New London Superior Court.
Ortiz, who resides at 107 Ocean Avenue, Apartment 2, in New London, was held on a $75,000 cash/surety bond.
He was arraigned at GA-10 New London on April 8 at 10 a.m.
