Elderly driver injured in Sheldon intersection crash

SHELDON — An 80-year-old Highgate woman suffered minor injuries Tuesday after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of VT 105 and VT 78.

Vermont State Police responded to the crash at 12:39 p.m. on April 8.

According to investigators, Emma Chaplin, driving a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, entered the intersection after stopping but failed to ensure it was safe to proceed.

Dustin Machia, 29, of Alburg, was traveling westbound on VT 105 in a 2020 Ram 1500 when the collision occurred in the westbound lane.

Chaplin’s vehicle sustained heavy damage to the driver’s side, particularly the rear passenger door.

Machia’s truck received minor front-end damage.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Chaplin was transported to Northwestern Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Machia was uninjured in the collision.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The crash occurred under clear skies with dry road conditions.
