MALTA — Troopers fatally shot a 69-year-old man who fired multiple rounds into the State Police Saratoga Barracks and then aimed his weapon at officers Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
David M. Levine of Malta was killed after he refused to drop his long gun and pointed it at troopers who had responded to gunfire outside the station at approximately 1:43 p.m., according to police.
Investigators confirmed that Levine had fired several rounds into the occupied barracks before troopers confronted him in the parking lot.
Multiple body-worn cameras captured the incident, but the footage will not be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
State Route 9 was closed in both directions between the State Route 67 traffic circle at Dunning Street and Saratoga Village Boulevard following the shooting.
The southbound lanes have been reopened, but northbound lanes remained closed as of 7:15 p.m. and were expected to reopen by 9 p.m.
The Attorney General’s Office has been notified and responded to the scene.
Authorities said there is no current threat to public safety resulting from this incident.
