Rome man arrested after armed robbery on Floyd Ave.

ROME — A 29-year-old Rome man was arrested after allegedly robbing a woman at gunpoint while she was driving with her young child on Floyd Avenue.

On April 7 at approximately 2:20 p.m., a woman reported to the Rome Police Department that she was operating her vehicle in the 900 block of Floyd Avenue when she slowed due to traffic.

The victim told police that a male approached her vehicle, brandished what appeared to be a firearm, threatened to harm her, and demanded money.

The woman and her young child were not harmed during the incident.

An investigation by the Rome Police Detective Division and Patrol Division quickly identified the suspect as Javon J. Barner of Rome.

Barner was located and taken into custody shortly after the incident.

He was charged with one felony count of Robbery Second Degree, processed, and transported to appear at centralized arraignment at the Oneida County Jail.
