ELLSWORTH — A 24-year-old Ellsworth man has been charged following a three-month investigation into multiple vehicle thefts across several Maine communities, authorities announced Tuesday.
Jacob Britton was charged on April 4 with multiple counts of theft, unauthorized use of property, and aggravated criminal mischief, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
The charges stem from incidents that occurred on Jan. 4, Jan. 16, and March 4 in various locations including Gouldsboro, Franklin, Trenton, Ellsworth, and Lewiston.
On Jan. 4, the Lewiston Police Department requested assistance locating a stolen 2024 GMC Sierra truck believed to be in Eastbrook.
On Jan. 16, the sheriff’s office received a report of a stolen 2021 Polaris Ranger 1000 ATV from a business in Trenton.
On Jan. 18, Maine State Police received a report of a truck stolen from a residence in Gouldsboro.
On March 4, the Ellsworth Police Department received a report of a truck stolen from a business in Ellsworth, which was recovered shortly afterward.
Also on March 4, the sheriff’s office received a report of a 2000 Ford Super Duty F-350 stolen from a residence in Franklin, which was also quickly recovered.
Britton has been given a future court date to appear in Ellsworth District Court.
The investigation involved collaboration between the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Ellsworth Police Department, Lewiston Police Department, and the Maine Warden Service.
