ARLINGTON — An 85-year-old Arlington man died Thursday after his vehicle struck a tree on Maple Hill Road.

Raymond Ostrander was traveling northbound in a 2023 Nissan Altima when his vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and collided with a tree at approximately 2:54 p.m., according to Vermont State Police.

Troopers from the Shaftsbury barracks responded to the single-vehicle crash and found Ostrander entrapped in the vehicle and unresponsive.

Members of the Arlington Fire Department and Arlington Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.

Ostrander, who was not wearing a seat belt, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash occurred near 922 Maple Hill Road under partly cloudy skies on a dirt roadway.

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Corporal Hess at the Shaftsbury barracks.
