BANGOR — A driver is trapped inside a vehicle after it veered off the road and struck a utility pole on Grove Street Tuesday morning.
According to the Newport Police Department, the vehicle was pulled into a soft shoulder and ended up in a ditch, knocking down a utility pole in the process.
The pole and wires are now blocking the roadway and resting on the vehicle, preventing the occupant from safely exiting.
Emergency crews are on scene waiting for Central Maine Power to arrive to address the downed power lines.
Grove Street is currently blocked approximately halfway up the road, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
Authorities have not released information about the driver’s condition or when the road might reopen.
