AMHERST — A 49-year-old Amherst man who serves as vice president of a child advocacy group was arrested on child pornography charges, state police said Wednesday.
John C. Todaro was arrested April 9 by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at SP Clarence for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class D felony, and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class E felony.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of SP Clarence with assistance from the Troop A Computer Crimes Unit as part of an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation in Amherst.
Investigators determined Todaro possessed and disseminated child pornography, according to state police.
Authorities noted Todaro is the vice president and active member of Bikers Against Child Abuse Buffalo Chapter, a position that would have provided opportunities for him to be around children and child victims.
Todaro was arraigned in Amherst Town Court and released on his own recognizance, with a scheduled court appearance in May.
State police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 585-344-6200.
