Weymouth man arrested after theft at local phone store

WEYMOUTH — A 62-year-old Weymouth man faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing money from a customer at a Metro PCS store.

Police responded to the Bridge Street business at approximately 4:52 p.m. Tuesday following reports of a theft.

According to officers, security footage showed Franklyn McLaughlin taking a $100 bill from the counter while another customer was distracted.

McLaughlin, of 225 Evans Street, was later located at his residence.

Officers reported that McLaughlin became uncooperative and physically resistant during the arrest attempt.

He has been charged with larceny from a person, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

McLaughlin was released on bail and is scheduled for arraignment today at Quincy District Court.
