Utica man faces drug charges after search of Kennedy Plaza apartment

UTICA — A man was arrested on multiple drug charges following a search of his apartment in Kennedy Plaza, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael J. Griggs was charged with several narcotics-related offenses after investigators executed a search warrant at 2 Kennedy Plaza, apartment 711, on April 8.

Sheriff Robert M. Maciol said investigators had learned Griggs was distributing cocaine from his apartment within the Kennedy Plaza high-rise.

The search yielded over 28 grams of cocaine, packaging materials, and scales, authorities said.

Griggs faces charges including two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, both B felonies, one for intent to sell and one for weight.

He was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, an A misdemeanor, and two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree, both A misdemeanors.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit was assisted by several agencies throughout the investigation, including the Utica Police Department Special Investigations Unit, Oneida County Forensic ID Unit, OCSO Road Patrol, Utica Police Department Patrol Division, and members of the Utica Police GIVE Unit.

Additional charges may be pending in relation to this case, according to the sheriff’s office.
