UNIONDALE — A Uniondale man was arrested for grand larceny after allegedly collecting a $5,000 security deposit for a rental property he had no legal right to rent, Nassau County police said.
According to detectives, Gerson Robles, 39, received the security deposit from a 48-year-old man who signed a lease agreement for the Uniondale property in November.
When the victim attempted to move in, he discovered the property was already occupied.
Investigators determined Robles did not have legal ownership of the property or authority to rent it.
Robles was charged with grand larceny in the third degree following what police described as a thorough investigation.
He was arrested without incident.
Detectives are asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized in a similar incident to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
