South Portland traffic stop leads to major drug, weapons seizure

SOUTH PORTLAND — A routine traffic stop early Sunday morning led to the seizure of multiple illegal drugs and firearms, according to South Portland police.

Officers pulled over Michael Myrick, 47, of South Portland, around 1 a.m. Sunday near Gorham Road and Clarks Pond Parkway.

During the roadside investigation, officers observed a firearm and evidence of drug possession inside the vehicle.

Police recovered a handgun along with 159.2 grams of fentanyl, 7.2 grams of cocaine base, and 12.8 grams of methamphetamine from the vehicle.

Myrick was arrested and transported to Cumberland County Jail.

Following the traffic stop discovery, officers obtained a search warrant for Myrick’s residence at 24 Marcelle Avenue in South Portland.

The subsequent search of his home Sunday afternoon yielded additional suspected drugs and a shotgun.

Myrick faces multiple felony charges including aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs (class A), unlawful possession of scheduled drugs (class B), unlawful trafficking scheduled drugs (class B), illegal possession of a firearm (class C), and unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs (class C).

He was arraigned Monday and remains held at Cumberland County Jail on $20,000 cash bail.
