Schenectady man charged with attempted murder in Albany, NY stabbing

ALBANY, NY — A 22-year-old Schenectady man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing incident in Albany that left a teenager injured.

Jose R. Martinez was arrested Tuesday after allegedly stabbing a 16-year-old male in the back near Central Avenue and Quail Street around 2:50 p.m.

Officers responded to a residence on Kent Street after receiving a report of a stabbing victim.

Upon arrival, police found the teenager suffering from a puncture wound to his back.

The victim received emergency medical treatment at the scene before being transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Investigators determined the stabbing occurred in the area of Central Avenue and Quail Street.

Shortly after the incident, Albany Police Department officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description walking near Eagle Street and Elm Street.

Martinez was identified as the suspect and taken into custody.

He has been charged with one count of attempted murder in the second degree and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.

Martinez was arraigned Wednesday morning in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
