AMSTERDAM — State Police, with assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Ricky A. Hemstreet II, 26, of Johnstown, on April 4 on multiple charges related to thefts throughout the area.
Hemstreet faces three counts of Grand Larceny in the third degree, Criminal Mischief in the second degree, Criminal Mischief in the third degree, Petit Larceny, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.
Investigators identified Hemstreet as a suspect in numerous outstanding investigations into larcenies of wire and other metal materials reportedly stolen from properties in Amsterdam, the village of Cobleskill, Florida, and the village of Fonda.
The thefts occurred from February through April, according to authorities.
During two of the larcenies, Hemstreet allegedly caused extensive damage by stealing wires installed as utilities.
Authorities say Hemstreet allegedly sold the stolen materials to a local scrap yard for money.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office took Hemstreet into custody as part of a similar criminal investigation.
After processing, Hemstreet was arraigned at the Mohawk Town Court and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
