DEWITT — A Dewitt man faces multiple charges after allegedly fracturing a state trooper’s ankle during an arrest attempt Monday evening.
State Police from North Syracuse were assisting the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office at 3800 New Court Avenue in the Town of Dewitt at approximately 6:51 p.m. on March 31.
While attempting to take David M. O’Brien, 52, into custody on an active probation warrant, O’Brien physically resisted and became combative, resulting in a struggle.
Troopers and Deputies were ultimately able to gain control and take O’Brien into custody.
During the altercation, a Trooper assigned to SP North Syracuse sustained a fractured ankle and was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
O’Brien was charged with assault in the 2nd degree of a police officer, a Class C felony; obstructing governmental administration in the 2nd degree, a Class A misdemeanor; and resisting arrest, a Class A misdemeanor.
Following processing at SP North Syracuse, where authorities say he remained uncooperative and combative, O’Brien was transported to the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment.
