The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, a nonprofit organization dedicated to K-12 history education, created the Student Advisory Council in 2014.

The council consists of high-achieving middle and high school students interested in promoting knowledge and understanding of American history.

Members are selected through a competitive application process to join what the institute describes as an “elite community of like-minded individuals.”
