AMITYVILLE — Suffolk County police are seeking information about an unsolved fatal hit-and-run that occurred in Amityville last year as part of Crime Victims Rights’ Week.

Santos Aguirre, 47, of Copiague, was crossing Route 110 near Albany Avenue when he was struck by a southbound vehicle and then hit by a northbound 2020 Land Rover on September 3 at approximately 11:45 p.m.

Aguirre was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both vehicles fled the location, though the driver of the Land Rover was arrested shortly after the crash.

Detectives believe the initial vehicle that struck Aguirre is a black 2015 to 2020 Mercedes Benz GLA SUV.

Crime Stoppers is offering a fast-cash reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Anyone with information is urged to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
