3 arrested in Fairfield burglary attempt

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Police Department has arrested three individuals in connection with a burglary investigation at the Southport Diner, where suspects attempted to steal an ATM machine but were unsuccessful.

On Feb. 2, Fairfield Police responded to the diner after receiving a report of a break-in.

Officers found evidence of forced entry and significant damage consistent with an attempted theft of the onsite ATM.

The case was turned over to the Fairfield Police Department Detective Bureau for further investigation.

Through an extensive investigation, detectives determined that the individuals involved were connected to multiple burglary incidents across various towns and cities in Connecticut.

Working in coordination with local task force officers, Fairfield Detectives executed an operation that led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.

Incriminating evidence was recovered that directly linked the individuals to the Southport Diner burglary, leading to the issuance of arrest warrants related to their crimes in Fairfield.

Edgar Crespo, 34, of Stratford and Donnie James, 22, of Bridgeport were arrested for Burglary in the 3rd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Attempt at Larceny in the 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief in the 1st Degree.

Both were held on a bond of $50,000 and issued court dates of April 3 and April 4 respectively.

Additionally, Francisco Ayala, 24, of Bridgeport was arrested for Larceny in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Attempt at Larceny in the 3rd Degree, held on a $50,000 bond and given a court date of March 24.
