WEYMOUTH — Weymouth police have arrested two suspects in connection with a shoplifting case that took place on March 19 at the Stop and Shop supermarket on 700 Middle Street.
On March 22, Weymouth officers responded to a report from the store’s Loss Prevention personnel, who stated that two women had stolen $1,582.57 worth of Health and Beauty Care products and fled in a silver minivan.
Surveillance footage from the incident was distributed to local law enforcement agencies to identify the suspects.
A detective from the Brockton Police Department succeeded in identifying them.
The Brockton detective located the suspects on March 31 while they were panhandling and questioned them further, which led to their arrest.
The suspects, identified as Maria Misclescu and Iasmina Sanatescu, were transported to the Weymouth Police Department.
Iasmina Sanatescu, 25, and Maria Misclescu, 20, both from Providence, face charges of larceny over $1200 and conspiracy to commit larceny.
The suspects were released on bail and arraigned at Quincy District Court on April 1.
The Weymouth Police Department is continuing its investigation and may file additional charges related to other thefts as more evidence is gathered.
